Nellie is actually her christened name. It was supposed to be Helen, andshe was to be nicknamed Nellie, but her father registered her as Nellie.

She worked for years as housekeeper to the French Consulate in Edinburghand was treated as "almost one of the family". Nellie was an avid readerof murder and mystery books and was lovingly nicknamed "Sheriff Nell"because of this passion.

She also worked at Munrospun, a well respected knitwear manufacturer inEdinburgh, along with her sisters Ina and Bessie.

Death registration says she was living at 11 Law Place at time of deathof acute myocardial ischaemia, chronic ischaemic heart disease. [1]
