Clipping appeared in Broxburn paper in 1907 to announce celebration ofJohn and Helen's Golden wedding anniversary:
Mr and Mrs John Easton, Old Town, Broxburn celebrated their goldenwedding last Friday evening, when a large company of relatives andfriends assembled in Haston Hall. Both Mr Easton and his wife, belong toBathgate, where in their youth they followed the now obsolete occupationof weaving in their homes. They were married on 29th March 1857, by thelate Rev. J Scott of the old Bathgate U.P.Church. After the weavingindustry went down, Mr Easton entered the service of Young's Oil Companyand was employed in the old Bathgate Chemical Works, and afterwards atStraiton with the Straiton Oil Company. He came to Broxburn 9 years ago,and although now 69 years of age, still actively follows his employmentthere as an oil worker in the service of the Broxburn Oil Company Ltd.Mrs Easton, who is 2 days younger than her husband, also continues toenjoy good health, and is able to go about her household duties from dayto day. There were seventeeen of a family, seven children of whom (fivesons and two daughters) survive. The aged couple have fifty-eightgrand-children and seven great-grand-children. After the ceremony onFriday evening they were made the recipients of numerous beautiful andhandsome presents, which were handed over on behalf of himself and theother members of the family by Mr John Easton, slater and plasterer, theeldest son. The Rev H Ferguson, of Broxburn East U.F. Church, officiated.In his younger days Mr Easton used to be a playing member of the oldBathgate Reed Band during Mr Adams term as conductor. He also had anumber of sons in that band, which was locally known as 'The Auld Cairt',the rival combination (the Chemical Works Band) being called 'TheBreaking Machine.' [1]
