Second son named James born to John Easton and Helen Fleming. Born at 36Cockrane St., Bathgate. Baptism at Free Church, attested to by theCongregation.

At the time of his birth, a man named James Galloway, age 39, was livingat 47 Cochrane Street, just down the road from JGE's parents, John andHelen, and at the same address as JGE's oldest brother John Easton. Couldthis James Galloway have been the inspiration for JGE's name?

Married at age 19, profession listed at the time as candlemaker, but bythe time of his daughter Janet's birth, he was listed as an electricalengineer.

His grandchildren remember him as an eccentric man who had a reputationas a drinker and a lady's man. Granddaughter Mary (Mamie) Easton Gillremembers a time when she was riding a bus in Edinburgh with hergirlfriends and she saw her grandfather with another woman.

Granddaughters Mamie and Muriel remember that he had beautifulhandwriting and he liked to write letters.

Helena Murray, granddaughter of James' brother Robert, remembers when heruncles Bobby Easton and William Blackmore went to Scotland during WWII tosee their Scottish cousins, but James wouldn't get out of bed to see them.

He moved wife and children to Edinburgh (area called the Jewel) fromBroxburn just at the start of WWI. He volunteered after just a month andleft the family in strange new place on their own.

Lived at 31 Bath St. Portobello at time of son Jim's death in 1944.

During WWII he taught engineering to the soldiers at the Ramsay TechnicalCollege.
